How We Help
Wellspring works with families of all compositions including single or dual parent, multi-generational, blended, foster or adoptive families. Wellspring services are designed to work with young people whose behaviors are of concern to the young person, family and/or community. Problems are generally observed at home, in school or by law enforcement.
Typically services begin with a telephone call to Wellspring by a concerned parent, family member or agency in the community. Our Admissions Specialists gather necessary information, answer questions, and schedule an intake interview. We also help families determine whether they qualify for State funding for services and/or whether a family's private health insurance covers the cost of services.
Family-based Principles:
- To strengthen and maintain families.
- To prevent family dissolution.
- To promote family self-sufficiency and reduce dependency.
- To assure permanent, stable homes for children by providing prevention and reunification services.
Family-based philosophy and principles are the foundation of every service developed by Wellspring. Family-based services begin at the time of the initial contact with Wellspring. The primary purpose of this therapeutic strategy is to help families resolve conflicts in a constructive way. Wellspring therapists help family members recognize and utilize resources they already possess and refer them to appropriate services in the community if needed.
Approach:
At Wellspring we believe youth are capable of acquiring the skills to think, feel and behave differently.
Combining traditional therapy with CORRECTIVE THINKING is the cornerstone of a daily Wellspring program. Correcting errors in thinking is basic. Our program addresses BEHAVIORS that result from a person's thoughts including habitual ways of acting that keep youth stuck in destructive lives. These BEHAVIORS are ways youth take control and build walls to shut out those who would help them. When youth become aware of BEHAVIORS and how they use them, change becomes possible.
All Wellspring residential/inpatient and outpatient programs utilize a group process model, which helps youth set goals and achieve positive thinking and redirection. Our CORRECTIVE THINKING approach focuses on monitoring and modifying inappropriate and even extremely delinquent behavior problems.
At Wellspring, youth experience a sense of community and learn the importance of respect and individual responsibility. Wellspring provides a "home like environment" which includes participation in chores, making beds, cleaning rooms, bed times, laundry, helping to cook, etc... Youth also learn the value of supporting one another's efforts while encouraging each other through life's challenges. Each day provides an opportunity for residents to move from needing support to offering support to other group members.
Wellspring recognizes the need for other therapeutic tools; psychiatric and psychological services, individual counseling, family counseling and education are additional services available to youth.
